UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon was in İstanbul to participate “Alliance of Civilizations Partners Forum”. On the last day of his journey, 2 June, he visited Yenikapı archaeological dig site where a former Medieval harbor discovered during the construction of Marmaray and Metro railway hub projects. Hosted by Kadir Topbaş; the mayor of Istanbul and, Zeynep Kızıltan; the director of Istanbul Archaeology Museum, Ban Ki-moon took a tour of the site. He also visited Istanbul Unıversity’s “Yenikapı Shipwrecks Project” site. Here, the Secretary General accompanied by Prof.Ayşe Ayçiçeği Dinn, the Vice Rector of the Istanbul University, Prof. Mustafa Özkan, the Dean of the Faculty of Letters; and Assoc. Prof. Ufuk Kocabaş, the director of the Yenikapı Shipwrecks Project. He received the first volume of the project’s monograph series and examine a recently uncovered shipwreck in place. After the visit Ban Ki-moon expresses his gratitude for the careful studies, and he states that these remains represent the common heritage of mankind.
